PC Illuminate Display 101: Contrast Ratio Explained

What Is Contrast Ratio?
Contrast Ratio is an important part of any display solution because it defines the display's ability to differentiate the brightness of the individual pixels used in the display to makeup a complete image on screen. For more information on the importance of the pixel and how it relates to multi-monitor technology, checkout the resource center articles on desktop real-estate and size vs. resolution. Contrast Ratio describes the difference between the brightest whites a display can produce to the darkest blacks that same display can produce.

Why Is It Important?
The higher the contrast ratio, the better since a display with a higher contrast ratio can show a greater range of illumination on screen. Contrast ratio is just as important with a multi-monitor display solution as it is on a single display and a higher contrast ratio will break down to a more vibrant image. All PC Illuminate multi-monitor display solutions utilize panels with ultra high contrast ratios in order to provide the sharpest and most vibrant images available.

PC Illuminate Display 101: Response Time Explained

What Is Response Time?
You might see the term response time when looking at different multi-monitor display solutions, but not really know what exactly it means. The fact is that response time plays an important part in any display solution including a multi-monitor display solution. Response time refers to the amount of time a display requires to change it's pixels which are the building blocks of the image a display produces. For more information on the importance of the pixel and how it relates to multi-monitor technology, checkout the resource center articles on desktop real-estate and size vs. resolution. In basic terms, the response time describes how fast a display can react. The response time is measured by how fast a display can go from one sequence of pixel values to another set of values and then return again to its original state. There are industry standards in place for the way response time is measured and it is calculated in milliseconds (ms).

Why Is It Important?
The lower the response time the better, since this means the image can change more rapidly, thus reducing any possible ghosting or lagging on your display. When dealing with a multi-monitor display solution, a lower response time is better since it provides for a smoother transition as you drag and drop different applications and windows to separate display panels, and a lower response time means better overall display performance. PC Illuminate utilizes displays with lightning quick response times to ensure the absolute best multi-monitor experience available.

PC Illuminate Display 101: LED Technology Explained

What Is An LED Backlight?
LED backlight technology is a newer backlight technology utilizing many light-emitting diodes or LEDs as a light source for a display solution. LEDs are long lasting and subject to very limited wear and tear making them ideal for use as a display backlight. LED backlighting has a dramatic impact on displays allowing for thinner panel designs, less heat output, and brighter displays with better contrast levels and an overall higher image quality than traditional non-LED display solutions.

Green Technology
LED displays are a green technology and produce less environmental pollution on disposal compared to traditional displays.

Power Efficient
In addition, LED displays are more power efficient and providing 20-30% lower power consumption, thus allowing for a reduced carbon footprint and lower utility bill.

Higher Contrast Ratio
Because LEDs are able to be switched on and off more quickly than traditional displays and can offer higher light output, it is possible to offer very high contrast ratios in LED displays. Deep blacks can be accomplished with an LED turned off and very bright whites can be produced with an LED turned on.
